It all began with a crazy idea!
To give everyone an idea of how this adventure came to be I will need to take you back some 17 years ago when a very young couple was in their first year of marriage and setting standards for their life together. Kris and I had decided early in our marriage we were not having children. Not because we didn't love kids but the idea of raising them in this cruel world and making sure they would be good people presented very daunting. We made a plan to save as much money as possible and by age 40 we would have enough money to retire and travel the world. As you all know that is not the path that chose us. Two kids later and 41 years later here we are. So instead of retiring at 40 with no kids we are mid-life retiring with our two wonderful children.
What's a mid life retirement you ask? Not sure I can answer that question fully but my definition is removing all responsibility in the middle of your life to enjoy the most precious people and share adventures that will make memories you may never make in retirement. So the plan is simple.
1. Consolidate all we have into one small storage unit until we return.
2. Donate/Recycle/Discard things of no worth, value, or use. Minimize...that's the name of the game. Getting rid of stuff has been so freeing.
3. Take only the essentials with you. Anything needed can be bought en route. The idea of stocking up sounded good at first but then the reality that we have never done this before and we have no clue as to what is "essential". So why over buy and under use? We do not have space for such waste...lol, that rhymes.
4. Quit jobs. This was a big and scary step for us. Once we gave notice the weight lifted and the adventure took life.
5. Obtain schooling for the kids. I am not a teacher and I do not claim to be. Therefor I needed a precise "this is what you do" program. The kids will be enrolled in a charter school attending a branch of the school for home schooling.
6. SAVE MONEY! Maybe this should be #1.
7. Tell everyone goodbye
8. Let the Adventure Begin.
We depart June 15th. Bring it On!
Final Note:
I dare you to live a life of adventure and seize the moments as they present to you. Don't let a tender moment between you and your spouse or child pass you by. If you feel it give it! You will never regret loving people and giving them your best.
