52 Days and Counting
My son asked to count down the days until we set sail. Wow...52 days left. The kids are so excited as we continue to pack away our life here and prepare for the future life that awaits us right outside our door (literally...the RV is sitting outside in the street).
We had a "Donation Sale:" two weeks ago and made $125.00. We gave everything away free and had a donation jar if people wanted to give to our trip. I was pretty impressed with the amount we received. Immediately following the sale Kris loaded up the truck and took the rest to Goodwill. These items need a new home and will help others function in their daily lives. I love to recycle and pass things on to others. It feels good to reduce consumption. I encourage all of you to borrow items from each other. If you only need an item temporarily borrow it from a neighbor. Annie, our neighbor, has loaned me more than my fair share of baking pans, can openers, and pineapple cutters over the 2.5 years living next to her. She is a good friend and doesn't mind helping out. OK...enough of that soap box. I can stand on top and preach forever.
The next 7 weekends are packed with so many activities and "have to's". Baseball, Girl Scouts, YMCA Adventure Guides, friend get-togethers, Les Mes, Vegas, birthday parties, and so many others. Kris and I are doing our best to slow down and enjoy the moments of packing and celebrating the decision we have made to explore unencumbered with our children. To live and be in the present. To cherish each day, each struggle, each success, each milestone and greet those moments with open arms and honor all the feelings that imerge.
I am not disillusioned to believe we won't have bad days, days when we will question if this journey was the right thing. I am struggling right now to find the right curriculum for the kids while on the road. Homeschooling is so confusing. Not only are the curriculum's expensive but there are such mixed messages about what is best. Some say "adopt a "no-schooling" mentalitiy but I am not convinced this is the best for my kids. The kids will most likely re-enter the public school so I need to keep them up to standards. Any suggestions from anyone who homeschools would be great.
This is weighs heavy on my heart today.
Stay tuned...We no longer have internet access at the house since we cut cable and internet so I am only able to post if I am at my office. I think our couch will be sold tonight. I guess we will bring the sling chairs in from the RV for seating. lol
