Roadschooling....let the good times roll!

Roadschooling has been an adventure thus far. The kids have enjoyed the shortened school day and I have enjoyed seeing their minds grow, struggle and succeed. The kids are enrolled in a charter school in San Diego called Inspire Charter School. This school has a homeschool program that can be catered to partial homeschooling to 100% full parent homeschooling. This obviously is our option. I have a teacher assigned to the kid and I for support and to help if need be. I have to provide one piece of work per month per kid to the teacher to stay compliant with the criteria of the school. Other than that we are on our own.

I did not buy a curriculum. I am using books, workbooks, printouts and web subscriptions (paid for by the school) to keep them on track. As of right now the kids will rejoin the public school but who knows. I am really enjoying this new teacher position. So we will keep the homeschooling door open.

We are calling it Roadschooling because our home is the road and no 2 days look alike. The kids go on lots of "field trips" which is learning at its best. Hands on learning is so much faster.

We have been on five field trips

1. Henry Ford Museum

2. Motown Museum

3. Niagara Falls helicopter tour

4. Anne of Green Gables museum

5. Maritime Museum in Nova Scotia

6. Paul Revers Home

7. North Church

8. Old South Meeting House

9. Plymouth Museum

10. Countless cemeteries

12. Red Sox's game and Fenway Park

13. Harvard's Natural History Museum

Just to name a few....

Plus all the experience they are getting with local Farmers Markets, fellow RV campers, exploring new cities and ways of life. I am envious of this education.

Don't get me wrong... It has had its hardships. Trying to find space in the RV for both of them to learn and ask questions as well as work on the laptop has been the biggest challenge. So I purchased a folding table and chair for Boyd. He now sits in the kitchen ( that's so funny to say we even have a kitchen) while Blythe remains in the booth.

We have made it work and over the last several weeks we have implemented lots of changes, frequent breaks, and minimized the workload.

Hats off to teachers. This has given me a whole new perspective about what it takes to instill education into another human being. Not only do you have to instill this new information but you have to do so in a neutral manner....with no feeling, no frustration and with the patience of Job.

I'm going to post some pictures of our past outings that I just downloaded off my phone and camera.

I wrote this blog about 3 months ago. I guess I'll post it. I have writers block. Lol
